Style

French chanson chamber folk, unhurried 84 BPM 6/8 sway that gathers into a cathartic refrain; intimate close-mic female mezzo-soprano, ribbon-mic warmth; tape saturation, plate reverb, mono room ambience and vintage mono mix; fingerpicked acoustic guitar, swelling Hammond organ, chamber string quartet, brushed snare and upright bass.

Lyrics

Ce soir je dois sourire

Ce soir je dois chanter

Pas émettre le moindre soupir

Ne pas avoir l'air fatiguée

Ce soir vous ne devez pas voir

Que j'ai mal un peu partout

Que dans ma tête il fait noir

Que je vais tomber à genoux

refrain

Quand je franchis la porte

Il faut que je sois forte

Vous ne comprenez pas

Que pour un rien je m' emporte

Qu'il faut tout que je supporte

Et si je tombe quelque fois

Vous ne le voyez pas

couplet

J'ai eu une journée difficile

Pas un seul instant tranquille

Pour rêver à tous mes projets

Que je ne réaliserai jamais

Pas un coup de fil Pour dire qu'on m'aime

Pas un pour écouter mes problèmes

J'aimerai tant rencontrer une épaule

Et pour une fois changer de rôle

Refrain

Quand je franchi la porte

Il faut que je sois forte

Vous ne comprenez pas

Que je fais tout pour qu'on s'en sortent

Que c'est moi qui vous porte

Qu'il faut tout que je supporte

Et quand je tombe quelque fois

Vous ne le voyais pas.

Pourtant je sais que vous m' aimez

Quand je vois vos mains trembler

Que je vois vos yeux se noyer

De peur que je m'en aille

A force de trop de batailles
