Rainwalk (12-Bit Tape) — Rain Protagonist Mix

Instrumental only. No vocals. Rain is the lead instrument. Drums and bass are quiet support. Do not add a lead melody.

Intro — INSIDE, WINDOW CLOSED

Rain is a distant muffled smear — low-passed at ~600 Hz, mono, centered, quiet, close-mic'd through glass. No stereo width. No drums yet. A single muted jazz chord swells and decays far in the background at very low volume. Vinyl crackle and tape hiss form the bed. SP-1200 quantization grain is audible on the chord tail. Do NOT introduce melody.

Verse A — WINDOW OPENS

Window opens: rain expands instantly into wide stereo, high frequencies bloom, air fills the sides of the field, water drips on the windowsill pan left and right. The mono smear splits into L/R channels. First kick and ghost snare enter quietly under the rain. Closed hi-hats are muffled and dripping, not sharp. Bass is a filtered contrabass at low volume, one note per bar, walking slowly. Muted chord stabs sit behind the rain, never on top.

Chorus — STEPPING OUTSIDE

Stepping outside: rain is fully wide and bright, droplets hit the hood — sharp percussive drips panned left-right-left in sync with ghost snares. Footsteps in puddles become rhythmic splashes layered with the kick. Full boom-bap groove enters but stays 3 dB quieter than the rain. Bass walks, muted chords comp, but the rain dominates the front of the mix. Tape saturation rises slightly. Wow and flutter drifts.

Bridge — UNDER AWNING

Stepping under awning: rain becomes a tin-roof texture — narrow, filtered, mid-focused, no stereo width. Low-pass closes to ~800 Hz. Stereo narrows to near-mono. Drums drop out entirely. Only bass and distant rain remain. Hi-hats fade to occasional drips. Volume of the whole mix drops by 4 dB. No melody, no lead.

Verse B — BACK INTO THE RAIN

Returning to the rain: stereo widens again, highs open, kick-snare-ghost pattern returns with droplet accents on the off-beats. New chord progression — muted Rhodes-like chords buried deep, filtered warmth. Bass walks underneath. Rain stays in front. No lead melody — the rain's rhythm IS the melody.

Outro — WALKING AWAY

Walking away: rain recedes — stereo narrows, low-pass closes gradually to ~500 Hz, tape wow slows, 12-bit quantization grain thickens as the signal decays. Final muted chord fades under the rain. Last rain-on-glass wash, then crackle, then silence. Do not add a closing melody or piano phrase.
